The best beaches near Vejer

Vejer de la Frontera has a privileged location: just 10-15 minutes by car you have some of the most spectacular beaches on the Cádiz coast.

El Palmar: Surfer's paradise

10 minutes from Vejer, El Palmar is the closest beach and probably the best for surfing on the entire Cádiz coast.

  • Length: 4 km of golden sand
  • Best time for surf: Autumn and winter (more consistent waves)
  • For beginners: Surf schools offer classes all year round
  • Beach bars: El Palmar maintains its essence with simple chiringuitos and good fried fish
  • Caños de Meca Beach

15 minutes south. A wilder beach, with naturist areas and the legendary Trafalgar Lighthouse.

  • Perfect for long walks
  • Spectacular sunsets
  • In summer, livelier atmosphere
  • Bolonia: The dune and the ruins

25 minutes away, Bolonia is one of Spain's most photographed beaches. Its dune over 30 meters high is a Natural Monument.

  • Baelo Claudia ruins: Roman city next to the beach (free entry)
  • The dune: Climb up for the most impressive views of the Strait
  • Wind: Can blow strong (ideal for kite, less so for umbrellas)

Tarifa: Capital of the wind

30-35 minutes away, Tarifa is a world mecca for windsurfing and kitesurfing. Extensive beaches, crystal clear water and the possibility of seeing Africa on clear days.

Practical tips

1. Bring cash: Some beach bars don't accept cards

2. Sun protection: The wind is deceptive, but the sun hits hard

3. Parking: In summer arrive early (before 11:00)

4. Extra towel: For the car, El Palmar sand is fine and gets everywhere
